The discovery call

Thirty minutes. Straight answers. Zero obligation.

Tell us a little about your business below. We'll reach out to set up the call — and if we don't think we can genuinely help, we'll tell you that instead of booking you.

01

Send the form.

Two minutes. The more honest the “where things slip” part, the more useful the call.

02

We reach out.

A real person replies within one business day to schedule — no drip sequence, no “AI SDR.”

03

The call.

We walk through how your business runs, where it leaks, and whether there's enough here to be worth building. You leave with our honest read either way.

One person takes the call. The same one builds it.

Nick, founder of Upshift Automations, smiling in golden-hour light.
Nick — Newport Beach, CA

The call is with Nick — the person who runs Upshift and builds the systems himself. No handoff to an account manager, no script. The person hearing where your business leaks is the same person who'd be fixing it.

No spam, no obligation, no pressure. A real person follows up within one business day.

Questions, answered straight

Everything owners ask us.

What does an AI automation agency do — and what makes Upshift different?

Most AI automation agencies build you a specific automation — an AI receptionist, a lead follow-up bot — bolt it onto the tools you already run, and charge monthly to maintain it. Upshift sells something else: a business that runs on one system instead of on you. That means an audit of your whole operation, a command center that pulls every platform into one view, custom automations built on that foundation, and ongoing optimization every month after. We don't sell one-off automations.

Why do most AI automation projects fail?

Because the automation gets deployed onto chaos. Researchers keep landing on the same causes — RAND names "underinvestment in infrastructure," MIT found tools that never integrate with real workflows — and it matches what we see: an automation wired to scattered, disagreeing systems has no reliable data to run on and nothing to fall back on. It works until the first surprise, then it stops or guesses. That's why we build the foundation before a single automation goes live.

Why do automations break after they're set up?

The world moves. A platform changes its interface, a customer replies something unexpected, a new employee enters data differently, volume doubles. An automation only handles what it was built to handle — and most are handed off with nobody watching for the day reality drifts. Ours are built with fail-safes (validate, fall back, escalate) and actively monitored every month, so drift gets caught and fixed instead of discovered in a customer complaint.

What's the monthly retainer for if nothing breaks?

New work. Every month we monitor your systems, tune what's live, and keep researching your business for the next automation worth building — then build it, included. In most of this industry, the retainer covers "monitoring and bug fixes" — insurance against the agency's own fragile build. Ours exists because optimizing a business is never finished.

Isn't an ongoing retainer just a way to bill me forever?

That's exactly the right question to ask — of anyone, including us. The test of a retainer is whether it produces new, visible work every month. Ours has a paper trail: what we watched, what we tuned, what we built next, all in your command center. If a retainer only exists in case something breaks, walk away.

What happens when an automation hits something it doesn't understand?

It doesn't guess. Every automation we ship validates its inputs against your command center, follows a fallback path when something looks off, fixes the hiccups it knows how to fix, and escalates real judgment calls to a person — flagged, with context. AI handles the repetitive; humans keep the judgment.

Will this replace my employees?

No — and we'd tell you if that's what you were buying. What it replaces is the busywork between your people: the re-typing, the chasing, the "did anyone follow up on that?" Your team gets the hours back; the judgment stays human.

Can this work with the software we already use?

That's the whole point. Email, CRMs, ad platforms, social accounts, calendars, invoicing, phone systems, spreadsheets — if it holds a piece of your business, we can almost certainly wire it in. Your team keeps working in the tools they know; you get one new screen, the command center, where it all comes together. Everything is built for you and run with you — "done-for-you AI," if you want the industry's phrase for it — without the part where it quietly stops working in month three.

How much does an AI automation agency cost?

Industry guides put typical agency builds anywhere from a few thousand dollars to $35,000+, with retainers running $500–$5,000+ a month — usually buying maintenance. We'd rather be transparent than coy: our optimization retainer starts at $5,000 a month and varies with scope. Yes, that's the top of the industry's range — because it's a different product. That monthly buys new automations and visible optimization work every month, not standby in case something breaks. And the audit comes first as its own one-time engagement — before any monthly is agreed to or any contract is signed — so you'll see the full plan and the full price before committing to anything ongoing.

How long does it take?

The honest answer: it depends on how much your business runs on, and we won't invent a number before the audit. What we can promise is the shape — the build ships in phases, so you see pieces working as they land instead of waiting on a big reveal. And be suspicious of anyone who promises a transformed business in 30 days. Fast and fragile is how this industry burned people.

We already got burned by an AI agency. Why would this go differently?

You're exactly who we built this for. What failed you almost certainly wasn't AI — it was an automation deployed on scattered systems with nothing to fall back on, sold by someone whose retainer got more valuable every time it broke. Foundation first, fail-safes always, and a monthly fee that has to prove itself with new work. Bring the horror story to the call; we've heard most of them.

Do you build websites too?

Yes — custom-designed and hand-built, with motion, SEO, AI chat, and generative imagery as standard rather than upsells. For systems clients it's covered by the retainer; for everyone else it's the one thing we offer as a standalone project. The full picture is on our website design page. See the website design page →
